CALENDULA

Available

In modern herbal medicine, Calendula is used "internally" (beverage) to treat ulcer and painful menstruation and "externally" (compress) to heal wounds, burns and insect bites.

Calendula is considered to be an excellent herb for ulcer, gastritis and gastrointestinal tract infections. It is also thought to act as a digestive.

At the same time, Calendula has a reputation for being effective in tackling severe pain and cramps of the menstruation. It is argued that its effectiveness may be due to its spasmolytic properties.

When Calendula is used at the skin, then its properties - as described by many herbal therapists - are truly impressive.

Calendula is considered to have wonderful healing properties that are based on its antiseptic and antibacterial action. Therefore, Calendula is recommended by Herbalists for the treatment of acne,  phlebitis, eczema and moles.

According to Herbal Therapists, Calendula can be decoctioned if boiled for 10-15 minutes in water (estimate that you will need 5g for each cup of beverage). You can consume up to 3 cups of Calendula a day (morning, noon, evening before lunch). If you want to prepare a compress, simply place a quantity of herb in a saucepan, cover with water and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Drain the herb and dip a clean cloth (towel, gauze, etc.) into the decoction. Place the cloth on the skin (as long as it is warm). Alternatively you can make a poultice by wrapping the herb boiled in a gauze and fastening it to the body.
