Pollen
is the abbreviated name for the pollen grains, that is, the male germ cells
of the Spermatophytes. In flower-bearing plants, the pollen grains are found
in the stamens and then transferred to the pistil for fertilization of the
flower. The thickness of the pollen grains ranges from 2.5 to 250 µm
(small).
Their color varies from poppy black, joint pine pink-red (Micromeria
juliana), dahlia pale yellow to cotton white. The taste of pollen is mostly
bitter but there are also plants, which usually give sweet pollen. |
